Gifts of Securities

Thank you for considering a gift of securities in support of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Gifts of
securities often offer significant tax benefits for a donor. For example, contributions of appreciated
securities held for over a year are generally deductible at market value, regardless of what the donor
paid for them; moreover, the capital gains tax is avoided through such a gift.

Gifting Required Minimum Distributions
If you have an individual retirement account and are over the age of 70 1/2 , you might consider a tax-
free transfer of your required minimum distribution to Saint Joan of Arc. Provisions of the Tax Cuts and
Jobs Acts of 2017 could make this option very advantageous for you as well as Saint Joan of Arc. An
individual can transfer up to $100,000 each year, even if that amount is more than the required
minimum distribution. Also, you can qualify for the tax-free transfer even if you only contribute a
portion of your required minimum distribution. Please note that in order to be considered a qualified
charitable distribution the funds must be transferred directly from your retirement account to Saint Joan
of Arc.

particularly in the case of an electronic transfer. Therefore, please ask your broker to include your name
and address in the DTC transfer instructions, and also please inform our Development Secretary of your
gift by email, phone, or letter.
