This quantity is a set of 17 papers from six symposia held in the course of the eighth Pacific Rim convention on Ceramic and Glass know-how (PACRIM-8) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, may perhaps 31-June five, 2009. those symposia contain:

  • Glasses and Ceramics for Nuclear and unsafe Waste therapy
  • Solid Oxide gas Cells and Hydrogen expertise
  • Ceramics for electrical power iteration, garage and Distribution
  • Photocatalytic fabrics: response, Processing, and functions
  • Direct Thermal to electricity Conversion fabrics and purposes

PACRIM-8 is the 8 in a chain of foreign meetings on rising ceramic applied sciences that started in 1993. PACRIM-8 used to be prepared and backed by means of the yankee Ceramic Society and was once recommended through The Australian Ceramic Society, The Ceramic Society of Japan, The chinese language Ceramic Society, and The Korean Ceramic Society. a complete of 862 specialists, practitioners, and finish clients from 41 international locations attended PACRIM-8, making it the most profitable ceramic technological know-how and engineering occasions in contemporary years.Content:

Ceramics for Environmental and Energy Applications ■ 37 Development of Waste Forms for Radioactive Iodine The shrinkage behavior during heating at 5°C/min of a sample of 80 wt% Glass A and 20 wt% Agl-MOR, ground to -400 mesh, is shown in Figure 3. Shrinkage due to viscous sintering of the glass matrix begins ~400°C and reaches 20% linear shrinkage by 500°C. Little additional shrinkage was observed during the hold at 500°C. 4 g/cm3 with <1% open porosity. When mixtures containing more than 20% Agl-MOR were heated to 500°C, the samples contained high levels of open porosity which is undesirable for chemical durability.

Heat-treatment of the mixture at 500 °C resulted in a significantly lower Ceramics for Environmental and Energy Applications · 29 Phase Formation Studies Using X-Ray Diffraction and Infrared Spectroscopy amount of nitratine, which interacted with alumina and borosilicate frit yielding pyroxene or sodalitetype phase. At higher temperatures (700-900 °C) the mixtures are composed of glass, spinel and pyroxene or sodalite-type phase whereas tenardite decomposes. The borosilicate melt dissolves pyroxene-type phase within the temperature range between 1000 and 1100 °C and spinel remains the only crystalline phase in the products obtained at 1100, 1200 °C and in the products melted at 1300 and 1400 °C and quenched by pouring onto a metal plate.
