L e t ' s put this more bluntly. H o w is the thesis of ontology as the mathematics of the pure manifold and that of logic as the (equally mathematical or mathematized) science of possible universes of the relation articulated? What is it that, as inconsistent as their being is, leads every world and every situation to be implacably linked! This is the question on which this short book opened. In fact, the book is really but the introduction to the real difficulty. We are going to deal with it in the second volume of L'Etre et /'eveneinent, in which the logical match up between the Subject and truths ends up finding its logic, as well as its ethics.
