Flowers of Mahonia are fragrant. 3). Mahonia and Berberis bear berries. In Mahonia they are held in drooping clusters, the common name Oregon grape is apt. In Norway, Mahonia aquifolium was particularly noticeable in fruit, more so than in Britain and Ireland. Depending on the species, berries of Berberis are red, translucent amber or blue-bloomed, carried from mid-summer until winter.
