Online Donations

Give Unto the LordIn giving to the church we put God first in our lives and recognize that God is the source of all that we have.  Our sacrificial gift to the church is giving back to God as a way of giving thanks.

Our time, our talents, and our money are a trust; therefore a healthy percentage should be willingly returned to God.  God has given so much, even His Son, that a high standard of giving is the only worthy response.

Please select your donation amount from the drop-down below and click on the "Donate" button. You will be taken to a secure check-out page in order to provide your credit card information.

Clergy's Devotions
Fr. Downey's Lenten Reflection
Posted: Friday, March 05, 2010

Lent can be a good time to reflect on the people who mean the most to us
and the relationships we hold most dear. For those of us who live in
industrialized countries, it can be jarring to realize that our time together
as a family might amount to no more than a few minutes a day. Our lives are independent as we scatter in different directions each day for work, school or childcare.

This season of reflection and renewal might be an appropriate time to pray about our family lives and how we can be more thoughtful and prayerful about Lent as a family. Perhaps we could hold a family meeting over dinner or some other relaxed place. We might want to talk about how our faith life is not a journey we make alone, but one we are in as a community, as a family.

One Lenten family practice might include a daily act of love for our family. Can we look around and see some small thing that needs to be done to make our lives together better? Is there laundry to sort or dishes to be washed? Is there a floor that needs sweeping or a room that needs dusting? Just one effort by
each of us each day can make a dramatic difference in sharing the workload
in the family. The grace we are reaching for goes beyond getting the garbage taken out, for example. We know it is a grace when my experience of taking the garbage out, feels to me like an act of love, an act of solidarity as a family. Perhaps the simplest way to prepare for this grace is to pray:

Dear Lord, may this simple, ordinary sacrifice of my time for the sake of those I love, draw us closer together as a family whose hearts You are drawing to Yourself in the togetherness of our family love.

One of the real graces of Lent has to do with forgiveness and reconciliation
– mercy and healing. This is never simply a matter between Jesus and me. It always has something to do with my family and with my relationships – how we are with each other. What in us needs mercy and healing? What patterns that we have need our reflections and common family choices and actions this Lent?

Society & The ArtsBoca Raton News.- With a full house of worship St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church parishioners welcomed their new Pastor Monsignor Michael D. McGraw last Sunday.

Msgr. Mike, as he likes to be called, identified ‘hope and mercy’ as two critical characteristics of Catholic parish life, in his opening Homily. He quoted Jesus as He began his public ministry “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim a year of favor from the Lord”.

Msgr. Michael McGraw was ordained a priest by the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania, where he was a University Professor in Theology and in Social Work at Gannon University. He was also the University Chaplain and founder of the Center for Social Concerns. In 1991 he was appointed Executive Director of Catholic Charities and served on the Administrative Cabinet of the diocese until 2004. At that time he joined the Faculty of St. Vincent DePaul Regional Seminary as Dean of Pastoral Formation and Professor of Spirituality where he oversaw the pastoral placement and supervision of seminarians in parishes, social service agencies and healthcare facilities throughout the State of Florida. His graduate education includes degrees from St. Mary Seminary & University, John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Fordham University in New York and Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

After Sunday’s Mass, all present were invited to a reception at Our Lady of Mercy Center where parishioners were able to mingle on a more personal level with Msgr. Mike and Fr. David Downey who delighted all attendees with his cheerful character.

Fr. David Downey joined St. Joan of Arc after serving as a priest at St. Peter Church in Jupiter for the past six years. Fr. Downey was a Registered Nurse, and a member of a religious order, The Congregation of Alexian Brothers. His undergraduate Nursing Degree is from Loyola University of Chicago. He also holds a degree in Human Resource/Organizational Mgmt. from St. Joseph’s College-Calumet in Indiana. Fr. Downey completed his Seminary education and Master of Divinity Degree at Blessed Pope John XXIII National Seminary in Boston and was ordained in May 2003. Fr. Downey looks forward to being part of the pastoral care of the sick and infirm at St. Joan of Arc.

Msgr. McGraw hopes to assist the already vibrant and active St. Joan of Arc Parish in the areas of spirituality, pastoral care, education and pastoral administration. He stated “I hope that I can help the St. Joan of Arc parish family to embody ‘hope and mercy’ in all that we do. I envision the arms of Jesus as being stretched out very widely to embrace all people with compassion and acceptance”.
